Eva Vamvakas (nee Ghikas) - August 27, 1938 - March 22, 2016

On Tuesday morning, March 22, after a brief and difficult illness, Eva Vamvakas passed away at Sunnybrook Hospital. Eva leaves behind her devoted husband Antonios (Tony), her son Elias, daughter in law Nancy (Fenwick), and her grandchildren Olivia, Megan and Michael, who were truly the delight of her life.

Born in Athens, Eva began her singing and acting career in Greece before travelling to Canada to perform. She fell in love with Canada, and in 1966 became a proud Canadian citizen, with her parents immigrating a few years later. Eva won the hearts of everyone she met, and she had wonderful friends from George’s, TLC Laser Centre and The Olive Branch Community Church.

Eva will be remembered for being strong, wise, inspiring and generous. She will be remembered for seizing every moment and for finding joy in all kinds of things....big and small. She loved and cared for the whole Vamvakas family - all of Tony’s nieces and nephews and their families that came to Canada. She loved and cared for her friends’ families, as well as all the friends of Elias, Nancy, Olivia, Megan and Michael. So many people were touched by her hospitality and welcoming spirit.

Eva requested that no funeral or memorial service be held. A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday night, from 6-9pm, at the home of Elias and Nancy Vamvakas. Please email nancy@vamvakas.com for address and details.

The Vamvakas Family would like to thank everyone at Sunnybrook Hospital for their devoted care of Eva over 35 years, and especially over the last 2 months. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation http://sunnybrook.ca/foundation/
